Mass Effect 3 - Ashley Williams WIP by hsholderiii Mass Effect 3 - Ashley Williams WIP by hsholderiii
Here's a progress shot of the Ashley armor I'm working on. I still need to add the stencil decals, stripes, and textures but I thought the finish turned out pretty nice.

Armored parts by me. Under suit sewn and worn by ~iyamikinoko

I see people cosplay with custom plastic pieces; do you melt it down your self or something? I wanna know? Please share your magical secrets with me.

Haha, no magical secrets. I wish! I'm pretty low tech when it comes to building stuff, almost obnoxiously so - that's probably my biggest secret. There's no formed plastic, it's all eva foam sheets. In fact, for the shins I used the 1/4 inch 99 cent craft foam sheets and they take paint just as well as the thicker expensive 1/2 inch floor mats I used for the rest of the armor. Most parts that seem like one piece are actually several smaller pieces glued together. Once assembled I blast it really quick and light with a heat gun, then spray plasti-dip rubber coating to seal, paint, spray a light protective coat. Then, if I think it needs it I'll use future floor wax and lightly brush it over the armor to bring out that shine. :D

what did you use to make the armor itself?

EVA foam. Most of the armor is made from the 1/2 inch floor mats.

But the shins were made entirely with the 1/4 inch eva craft foam sheets you can get at Micheal's and they worked just as good and added less silhouette-wise.
